Spinal arthritis is an incredibly serious affliction, however surprisingly enough, not many people are truly aware in regards to the signs and symptoms that stem from this ailment. It is truly essential that everyone understands the symptoms and such of an ailment such as spinal arthritis, so that if they do notice any signs at any point of their life they will recognize at least one of them and thus be able to realize that there may be a problem and get themselves checked out as soon as possible.

What is Spinal Arthritis?

If your back pain is severe, then you should go in to see your physician right away, as you may have what is known as spinal arthritis. The symptoms of spinal arthritis are typically similar to other spinal conditions, and this is one of the most primary reasons as to why it is so truly necessary to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as you possibly can at the first notice of any back pain.

How it is Diagnosed

There are actually many different ways that an ailment such as this can be diagnosed. For instance, there will usually be blood tests done first, as these will help to determine the exact type of arthritis that it is. Then, there will usually also be x-rays done, and this is considered as being one of the most important tests of all in regards to any type of spinal problem.

The x-rays are great because they are able to show the actual structure of the vertebrae as well of the outlines of the joints and thus can help to determine whether or not there has been any deterioration of cartilage in the person’s body. Furthermore, your doctor may recommend that you have an MRI done, and this is a test which is able to give a three-dimensional view of the spinal cord, as well as other parts of the back and the nerve roots and surrounding places.

What Happens if Arthritis is Found?

If this type of arthritis is found in you, then there are a number of different treatment options that are available; remember that there is no actual cure for arthritis however there are many things that you can do in order to relieve the pain and in order to prevent the arthritis from getting any worse, and so this is what you would need to think from here.

It is believed that rheumatoid arthritis does not have any known cure and at best, early and aggressive treatment of rheumatoid arthritis may significantly help in managing the disease as well as improve pain control and alleviate stiffness and fatigue. Rheumatoid arthritis treatment may be undertaken by using Rituxan which is a drug that is thought to be showing promising results and this drug, which is also known as Mabthera or Rituximab works by targeting B-cells and it may also be used to pave the way for other smart treatments to rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis treatment has so far only focused on treating the symptoms or modifying the disease process though lack of specificity may cause healthy cells to die along with the diseased cells.

Pain Is The Major Reason Why People Seek Treatment

It is believed that a majority of people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis rank pain as the main reason for seeking professional help and for rheumatoid arthritis treatment. Non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are used for rheumatoid arthritis treatment because these agents can block prostaglandins which are the substances that dilate blood vessels and result in inflammation as well as pain and of the dozens of NSAIDs; the most common ones are over-the-counter NSAIDs including aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.

There are also prescription NSAIDs including ibuprofen and naproxen and flurbiprofen. According to studies conducted on rheumatoid arthritis treatment, there are indications that optimal times for taking an NSAID is after the evening meal and once more when one awakens and this is mainly due to the fact that the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms increase gradually at night and peak when one awakens. Taking NSAIDs accompanied by food may be instrumental in greatly reducing stomach discomfort even though there may be a slowing down in the pain-relieving effort.

Besides taking NSAIDs for rheumatoid arthritis treatment one may also use a device called the Prosorba column which removes the inflammatory antibodies from the blood of the patient and this rheumatoid arthritis treatment works by first removing the blood from the body of the patient using a catheter and then passing the blood through a column that is no bigger than a coffee mug. The column is coated with protein A that helps to bind the antibodies and the blood is then returned to the patient and the procedure lasts for about 2 ½ hours and is performed once every week for twelve weeks. According to information available such therapies can slow or even half the progression of rheumatoid arthritis in one third to half of the patients getting this kind of rheumatoid arthritis treatment.

Since many of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis tend to mimic those of other types of arthritis, it may be difficult at first to distinguish what type of arthritis you are suffering from. One of the telltale symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis might be the symmetry with which you experience the joint inflammation. While other types of arthritis may only occur in a particular joint or on one side of the body, rheumatoid arthritis symptoms tend to affect both sides of the body simultaneously.

The reason for this difference lies in the cause of the disease. While other types of arthritis are generally caused by deterioration of cartilage from use, rheumatoid arthritis is the result of the body’s immune system attacking its own joints and surrounding tissues. The result is painful inflammation and swelling that can be painful to the touch and cause redness around the joints. The disease may occasionally affect other parts of the body as well, like the skin, lungs and heart. There is no know cure for rheumatoid arthritis, but symptoms can be treated through exercise, medication and plenty of rest.

Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms To Look For

During the times when the disease is active, rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite and low-grade fever. Muscle and joint inflammation and swelling can be painful, even to the touch. Stiffness and pain are generally felt more intensely first thing in the morning and after periods of inactivity. Joints that are inflamed may become red and swollen. Occasionally in advanced cases, there can be lack of function and deformity of some joints. Fortunately, there are many medications on the market that can reduce rheumatoid arthritis symptoms by alleviating pain and reducing the joint swelling that is involved. Some medications can even slow the deterioration of the joints that is common with this disease.

Treating Your Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

The best treatment for your rheumatoid arthritis symptoms is to see a rheumatologist as soon as possible. A rheumatologist is a doctor who specializes in autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis. Once your doctor has run tests to diagnose your illness, you will be able to begin a course of treatment that will include pain management and an exercise regimen that will help keep joints healthy and functioning. The good news is that early medical intervention to control your rheumatoid arthritis symptoms can greatly reduce the probability of any long-term disability from the disease.

Because arthritis is such a debilitating disease for the most part, this is thus why it is so important that there is proper medication available for it. It should be known first thing that there is rheumatoid arthritis medication available, and so it is important to look into this matter, especially if you or a loved one of yours suffers from rheumatoid arthritis; let it be known however that before you find rheumatoid arthritis medication you need to understand the disease of rheumatoid arthritis itself.

What Rheumatoid Arthritis is

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the many types of arthritis however it is differentiated by many different factors in particular. Basically, rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes chronic inflammation of the joints, and it is an affliction which is also able to cause inflammation of the tissue around the joints, as well as with other organs in the body.

As well, while rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic illness – which means that it can last a person for their entire lifetime – patients may still experience long periods without any symptoms at all. Typically, however, rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive illness which definitely has the potential to cause not only joint destruction but functional disability as well.

Proper Rheumatoid Arthritis Medication

In regards to proper rheumatoid arthritis medication, there are actually many different options that you have to choose from. The most common and popular types of rheumatoid arthritis medication would include such things as Prednisone, for instance, which is actually considered as being the most common and well known medication in regards to arthritis.

What is Prednisone?

Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid drug which is typically taken orally but which can be delivered via an injection and it is a drug which can be used for many different conditions. It is considered as being a prodrug, one that is converted into the liver and into prednislone, which is not only the active drug but a steroid as well.

It is considered as being particularly effective in regards to being an immunosuppressant and thus affects virtually all of the immune system; as well, it is able to be used in the cases of autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, and various kidney diseases as well, including that of nephritic syndrome, and in organ transplantation matters.

Just remember to consult with your doctor first so that the two of you can properly determine which medication would be best for you.

One may ponder whether eating certain foods does cause a flare-up in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or not. Rheumatoid arthritis diets may affect the symptoms in people in different ways depending on the foods the patient eats. There is however, no definitive evidence to suggest that a rheumatoid arthritis diet will have a particular effect on joint pain or inflammation though it is thought that oranges as well as certain fish oils may have a positive effect on the patient and help reduce inflammation in a person suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. There is need for more research on rheumatoid arthritis diet to establish whether food habits do have a positive influence in treating rheumatoid arthritis or not.

Maintain Healthy Weight And Take A Balanced Diet

In case one perceives that certain foods increase the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis then there is nothing lost in eliminating those foods from the diet to see whether it helps or not but it is not wise to exclude food groups or large number of foods without first consulting the doctor. Also, one should maintain a good and healthy weight and do so by taking a balanced diet since excess weight would add to the stress on the weight-bearing joints thus causing more joint pain as well as stiffness and inflammation.

The rheumatoid arthritis diet should contain the correct amount of calories, protein as well as calcium and a multitude of supplements may also be useful and so are fish oils, enzymes called bromelain and pancreatin as also antioxidants like vitamins A, C and E. To effectively manage rheumatoid arthritis diet, it is important to change the type of fat in the diet and Omega3 fatty acids have an important role to play in the inflammatory pathway of the human body and are often used in dietary management. Foods rich in Omega3 fatty acids include canola oil, salmon oil, soybean oil, soybeans, walnut oil, walnuts and avocado and avocado oil.

There are also certain foods that one should avoid that aggravate the rheumatoid arthritis and may cause flare-ups and these include alcohol, dairy, berries, tea, coffee, refined wheat, saturated fats, salts, processed foods, and fried and grilled foods. It is wise to restrict these foods and in case one is not sure whether the foods consumed are causing a flare-up or not, one should follow an eliminating diet whereby the suspect foods are restricted, if not eliminated and one may then add them one at a time to identify which foods were the culprits behind the flare-up.

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis, affecting more than two million people in the United States. It is frequently diagnosed in people between the ages of forty and sixty, but it can be discovered at other times of life as well. Unlike other types of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder of the autoimmune system. Autoimmune diseases are the result of the immune system attacking the tissues and organs of its own body, causing inflammation in the affected areas. These illnesses are generally chronic in nature, and while cures are not usually available there are treatments to help control the symptoms and the damage.

What Are The Symptoms?

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis can appear for a time, causing the presence of symptoms. This is called a flare, and can be quite frequent and progressively deteriorating or spontaneous and sporadic. The symptoms can also disappear for periods, and this is called remission. Remission can be the result of treatment or can happen without warning. Remissions can last weeks, months or even years for the lucky patients of rheumatoid arthritis. During a flare, symptoms will most commonly include muscle and joint pain and stiffness. Other symptoms can be extreme fatigue, loss of appetite and a low-grade fever. Joints can become swollen and tender to the touch. All of these symptoms will be most prevalent first thing in the morning, or after other stretches of inactivity.

What About Treatment?

There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, but there has been much progress in controlling symptoms and relieving the pain and discomfort. Studies show that the earlier you seek treatment for your disease, the more effectively you will be able to control the symptoms and slow the progression of the illness. The best way to treat your rheumatoid arthritis is through a combination of rest, exercise to strengthen the joints, and medication to relieve the pain and slow joint deterioration. A rheumatologist is a doctor who specializes in autoimmune disorders, and he will be able to help you find the best course of treatment for your particular situation. For mild cases of the disease, a pain medication such as Tylenol and moderate activity may be sufficient to keep the symptoms at bay. For those with more severe cases, there are a number of medications that can be tried until one is found that offers satisfactory results.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic condition that can be hard for a patient to cope with. Fortunately, through education, quality medical care and medications, many rheumatoid arthritis sufferers are able to enjoy a high quality of life without debilitating pain and joint deterioration.

The first question here should be what is reactive arthritis and the answer is not as simple as may be presumed; in other words, there are basically several different factors that need to be taken into consideration here, and so we must understand all of these in order to be able to fully understand the matter of reactive arthritis altogether.

What is Reactive Arthritis?

Reactive arthritis is basically a type of arthritis that is caused by bacteria, and this bacteria is what causes the person to initially become sick, and then it later travels through the body to the joints between the bones, and the joints of the body will then become stiff and will start to be painful; this is what is known as inflammation.

Reactive arthritis as of yet is known to most often affect areas of the body such as the knees, ankles, and toes, however it is also able to affect the eyes, the skin, and other muscles of the body. Therefore, because it is a form of arthritis that is anything but predictable, it is incredibly important that you get regular check ups with your doctor so that he can determine whether you have this form of arthritis or not.

Treatment

Basically in regards to treatment, if your doctor thinks that you may have this form of arthritis then they will typically refer you to a rheumatologist, and this is a doctor who has received special training in regards to the diagnosis and treatment of problems with joints, muscles, and bones, and so this doctor will be able to examine and diagnose better than anyone.

As well, your own doctor may perform a physical examination, and they may even order x-rays or other types of tests. Sometimes this form of arthritis will go away on its own in a couple days or so, and sometimes it can last much longer; each case is different and because it is so unexpected, you will basically have no way of knowing how long your case in particular is going to last.

Overall, the most important thing that you can remember to do is to keep yourself as healthy as possible, and this means going in for regular check ups with your family physician. After all, there is no cure for arthritis and so the best thing that you can do is try and prevent it altogether.

Neck arthritis is also known as cervical spondylosis and is a disorder that is the result of abnormal wear on the cartilage as well as bones of the neck with some amount of degeneration and mineral deposits being found in the cushions between the cervical disks. Neck arthritis is caused by chronic degeneration of the cervical spine that also includes the cushions between the cervical disks as well as between bones of the cervical spine and there may also be some occurrence of growths or spurs on the bones of the joint. Such degeneration will cause accumulated changes that may result in gradually compressing the nerve roots, which can occur in more than a single root, and may cause increased pain in the neck as well as arm and there would also be weakness and changes in sensation. When the condition is more advanced, it would lead to the spinal cord also becoming involved and would further affect not just the arms but also lead to ailments in the legs as well.

Occurs In People Aged 40 Or More

Neck arthritis may be present in a person that has attained the age of forty or more and continues to progress thereon and according to statistics, men may develop neck arthritis earlier than would women and the condition may also lead to myelopathy, affecting the spinal cord as well. As one grows older there would bound to be bone spurs that form on vertebral bodies who attempt to increase the surface area and thus stabilize the vertebral joint, though this is generally not successful and hence causes pain by putting pressure on the spinal nerves as also in some cases, on the spinal cord.

Risk Factors For Neck Arthritis

When a person has suffered repeated trauma to the neck there is every chance that neck arthritis would be more likely to result thereof and these traumas would also most likely be those that have occurred at work or through recreational activities and these may include carrying loads on the head, professional dancing, and professional gymnastics. Besides these, there may also be genetic as well as acquired risk factors and congenital factors that may cause neck arthritis including congenitally narrow spinal canal that is more likely to cause cervical spondylosis accompanied with myelopathy. The spinal cord, in such instances, is a very sensitive structure that relays feelings and if the space is too constricted to fit it inside the column of bone it occupies, the risk of getting neck arthritis increases greatly.

Arthritis is really an inflammation of the joints accompanied with swelling, heat as well as pain and it is believed that there are approximately 300,000 children in the US who may be having some sort of arthritis or the other, which may be short-term or long term and in rare cases, may even last a lifetime. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis is very common among kids and it is believed that there are approximately 50,000 children in the US suffering from it.

What Is The Cause?

There is no certainty about the actual causes of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children though according to research, it is believed to be an autoimmune disease where white blood cells lose their ability to differentiate between the healthy cells of the body and harmful invaders like bacteria and viruses. The protection that the body should get from its immune system against such harmful invaders fails and instead releases chemicals that are harmful to the healthy tissues leading to inflammation as well as pain. An early diagnosis of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis would help in effectively managing and minimizing the effects of arthritis. There are several different types of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis including polyarticular arthritis, paucuarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Polyarticular arthritis will affect girls more than it does boys and common symptoms are swelling or pain in five or more joints and affected areas include the small joints of the hand as well as weight-bearing joints like the knees, hips, ankles, neck and feet. There may also be accompanying fever of low intensity and there may also be bumps or nodules on the body on areas that feel pressure such as those that are used for sitting or leaning.

Pauciarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis can affect four or less than four joints and common symptoms are pain, stiffness, and swelling in the joints. Areas that are most commonly affected include the knee and wrist joints and there may also be inflammation of the iris with or without symptoms in active joints and such an inflammation are known as iridocyclitis or iritis or uveitis which may be detected at an early stage by an ophthalmologist.

The third type is the systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that can affect the entire body and symptoms consist of high fevers that intensify in the evenings with a sudden drop to normalcy. The child may feel extremely ill when the fever begins and would appear to be very pale or may develop a rash which may suddenly disappear as quickly as it first appeared. This may cause the joints in the body to get swollen and be painful as well as have a certain degree of stiffness.

Arthritis is an incredibly serious affliction, one that affects nearly every person in the world in fact, in one way or another at least. In fact, there are more than 100 different types of arthritis that are out there today, and those are just the ones that are known – there are assumed to be plenty more that are just not known about yet.

What is Foot Arthritis?

Foot arthritis is just one of the many different types of arthritis that are known, and although foot arthritis is in fact considered as being one of the more mild forms of arthritis for the most part, it can still be incredibly detrimental to a person’s life, and thus should be taken just as seriously as any other type of arthritis.

The Basics of Foot Arthritis

Basically, there are several different types of foot arthritis, with one of the most common being that of rheumatoid arthritis, which is a systematic disease that attacks multiple joints in the body; it should be known that about 90% of the people across the world that suffer from this affliction eventually develop symptoms that are related to the foot or the ankle.

As well, these symptoms will typically appear in the toes first and then usually in the hind feet or the back of the feet, and will eventually make their way to the ankles. Although the exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is actually unknown, there are several theories that have been taken seriously into consideration.

For instance, it is assumed by some that people are more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis if other people in their family have developed it previously, and another theory is that it takes a chemical or environmental trigger to actually activate the disease.

What you can do

Again, although there is as of yet no actual cure for the affliction, there are certain things that you can do in regards to relieving the pain that it causes. For instance, most people are able to relieve themselves of at least some of the pain through a daily regime of exercise and proper medication, and there are many medications that can be used in order to help control the pain.

Aspirin and ibuprofen are two of the most commonly used medications in regards to a situation such as this, and there are also others that can actually help to slow the spread of the disease, and this would include that of methotrexate, prednisone, and gold compounds, for example.
